Proper cleanliness and good hygiene help in quick healing of wounds and skin infections

E-mail

Healing of any wound or skin infection speeds-up when the infected area is regularly cleaned and good hygiene is maintained regardless of the antibiotic intake – a recent study suggests.

Very often we find young children coming back home with a new wound every day after their hard day at school and play. While it is true that every wound takes its time to heal, findings of a recent research by the scientists at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions have proven that the healing time of the wound reduces when it is properly cared for and cleaned-up regularly.

A trial conducted on children, as a part of the study to test the effectiveness of two antibiotics, demonstrated that regardless of the antibiotic given to the children, all wounds healed completely within a week. Researchers thus suggest that the key to rapid healing of the wound is proper care and cleanliness of the wound, and not the choice of antibiotics.

Recently published in the journal Pediatrics, the results of the study strongly recommend maintenance of a good hygiene around the infected area, in addition to cleaning, draining and dressing of the wound to speed-up the recovery of the skin infections.
